2014 Awards

ALEXION AWARD OF EXCELLENCE

City of Bridgeport

The City of Bridgeport and its successful BGreen2020 program was selected as this year’s choice for the Alexion Award of Excellence, The City of Bridgeport launched the BGreen 2020 program in 2010 with the assistance of the Bridgeport Regional Business Council, and a consortium of local business groups. Subsequently, Aris Land Studio, as a firm committed to sustainable strategies, relocated our offices to Bridgeport in 2011 realizing the leadership exemplified by the City through their BGreen 2020 program. Accomplished in a short time, we believe it is important to highlight the City’s success to educate others about the impacts we can have to improve our communities.

With the BGreen 2020 program, the City realizes that sustainability creates a more resilient, healthier, a better place to live, and community with better economic opportunities. Since the program’s launch in 2010, the City has progressed on, or accomplished most of the 63 strategies identified in the original plan. These strategies included greener buildings, greener public spaces and public transportation, reducing waste and increasing recycling, and striving for greener sources for the City’s energy sources. By 2013, the city as a whole has reduced
55,290 metric tons of greenhouse gas; more than all municipal operations combined.
